AETAS AUREA XI. – First monograph of the leading Utrecht painter Abraham Bloemaert (1566-1651) and his four sons (painters & engravers), in his stature comparable to the contemporaries Hendrik Goltzius & Cornelis van Haarlem. Known by him more than 200 paintings & 625 prints after drawings, executed i. a. by Matham, Saenredam, Bolswert and Cornelis (60) and Frederick (380) Bloemaert. Cataloged separately 30 dated drawings to paintings not dated & 35 comparative illustrations of third parties. Thematically as stylistically his œuvre is varied, reflecting six decades art scene. Besides main representative of Dutch catholic art.

Next to the œuvre that of the so far widely disregarded and now thoroughly dealt with son Hendrick with 120 known paintings of the same range of themes, thus genre, religious, mythological subjects, portraits. Especially discussed also son Adriaen. A great deal of the family’s œuvre researched and published here for the first time.
