The  Catalogue  of  the  legendary  Davidsohn  Collection

with its ca. 10,000 old master prints from the XVth to the XVIIIth centuries offered for sale in 6,104 lots “the worldwide largest print collection” (Kiaulehn p. 322) beside that of baron Lanna in Prague auctioned 12 years before.

Davidsohn, born in Danzig 1839, went to Scotland in 1858. Since 1862 as a merchant in London he moved to Vienna in 1882 and lived in Berlin since 1886. Here he had been one of the great men of the Berlin Union Film and the decisive financier of the Lubitsch movies “The Eyes of the Mummy Ma” and “The Doll” of 1918/19.

Printed by Poeschel & Trepte in Leipsic, the text on laid paper. The copy here in a

fine private binding with  Otto  Venediger’s  Ex-libris .

The plates loose in portfolios bound with the respective text. Of very good condition except for a few pencil marks and slight mould stains resp. Vol. I, pl. 38, Dürer, present only half. Two-thirds of vol. I slightly dog-eared in the wide lower margin.
